5 Keys to Success on The Net

Key #1-NEWSFLASH! You do not have to be the Flea Market of the net to succeed.

The Internet is a big place. Millions of people are shouting about billions of products. Online advertising is low-cost,but it is also a little bit like yelling your message in a crowded football stadium. Try to advertise to everyone andyou will wind up getting the attention of no one. It's important to niche your marketing.

Key #1 is all about narrowing your focus and targeting youraudience.

Who do you want to sell your products and services to? I always cringe when I hear someone say "everyone!" Of course, if everyone wanted to buy what you are selling you would be raking in millions each day. Unfortunately, that is an impossible goal to attain. Even Coca-cola isn't purchased by everyone (some like Pepsi). Bill Gates may come the closest with over 80% of the world's computer users buying his software. The rest of us are going to have to settle on selling to  particular group of people. You can't afford to marketto the whole world, but you CAN market very effectively to a limited number of people.

Key #2 Effective use of color.

*Use just a few colors on your web page.
*No more than 20% of your site should be in color.

*Use simple color lines at the top and bottom of each page to separate sections.
*Use your color to accent what you are doing, for key points.
*Consider how color affects people psychologically:

*Yellow promotes optimism, but too much makes people uneasy
*White is associated with truth
*Orange is associated with fun, while red promotes appetite.
*Black is the most dramatic color for backgrounds
*Blue implies authority, financial responsibility, and security.
*Green means health and tranquility.

Key #3 Make sure your pages are consistent.

The style on your pages should be the same from page to page. You want your prospects to become familiar with your navigation as they explore your site.90% of the time a two column format works the best. Use about 20% of your space for navigation and the rest for content.

Key #4 Your ad copy is King!

A beautifully designed site can be an eye popper, but if you don't get the sale who cares?

Most of your time should be spent testing your ad copy and measuring the results. We once changed the ad copy for a company that was selling about $3000 a month, and the following  month they sold over $12000. Consider having your web copy done professionally.

Key #5 Effective design coupled with a secure ordering system.

Your site should be easy to navigate, make everything accessible with one or two mouse clicks. Your customers should always have easy access to your order page and having plenty of useful infomation will bring customers back.

Fastloading logos and buttons coupled with small graphics give your site a professional appearance without losing customers because your site takes too long to load.
